Student Life & Community

  • • Big thinking isn’t all you’ll do; you’ll have big adventures too. Perched a mile above sea-level in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, Highlands College is located in historic Butte. Headframes from the area’s underground mining past decorate the hills against the backdrop of 360-degree mountain views. Outdoor recreation opportunities are available in every direction and with Butte being Montana’s Festival City, there’s always something to experience.
  • • Montana Tech Orediggers have 10 NAIA teams including: men’s football, women’s volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, and track & field.
  • • Our Outdoor Recreation Program has gear rentals available and offers student trips. A mountain bike skills park on the North campus links to miles of adjacent single and double-track trails.
  • • Students participate in 80+ clubs and organizations and 200+ campus activities are offered each year, including student traditions like Bed Races and Painting the M.
  • • The Health, Physical Education and Recreation Complex offers 8,000 square feet of fitness space including a six-lane 25-meter pool, a cardio and weight room, dance studio, and more.
  • • There are three residence halls to choose. The new Student Success Center includes a residence hall, student services, advising, tutoring, an eatery—and terrific mountain and stadium views. Highlands College students are welcome to live on campus but not required.

Important Things To Know

  • • Dual enrollment offers opportunities for high school students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously. The One-Two-Free dual enrollment program offers up to six credits (for 100 or 200 lower division level college courses) through the Montana University System (MUS) to all eligible high school students. After using six free credits, high school students pay 50% of Highlands College tuition for additional credits and students that demonstrate need can apply for a Hardship Scholarship to cover additional credits.   • • In addition to certificate programs and Associate's degrees, Highlands College also offers trainings for businesses and organizations and workforce development programs including the Certified Driver's License (CDL) Program and the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Program.
