Student Life & Community
- 3,000 pounds of fresh produce grown each year.
- A strong commitment to reduce, reuse and recycle within our operations
- Campus Dining: Every student wants to know if a college has good grub. At UM, the answer is a resounding “yes”! UM's Campus Dining is recognized for our award-winning team of chefs, sustainability programs and special dining events.
- Gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian and halal entrees at every meal.
- NEVER A DULL MOMENT.
- Private, free, one-on-one nutrition counseling with our registered dietitian for all students with residential meal plans.
- The University Center – or the UC, as we call it – is UM's Student Union. It is the hub of campus activity, providing student-focused opportunities, programs, services and space. Inside the UC you'll find the UM Bookstore, the UC Market, the Gaming Den, student life offices, several dining venues, an art gallery, a movie theater, the impressive UC Gardens that span three stories and more.
- There are only so many hours in the day, and with countless groups to join, sports to play and performances to take in, you’ll have no problem filling them. And that’s just on campus. Missoula makes a lot of “best town” lists and for good reason. Take it all in as a Grizzly.
- UM Housing: Our housing options create a living environment that fosters a sense of community and nurtures your educational experiences and personal development. We offer eight on-campus residence halls, apartment-style living in Lewis and Clark Village, and family housing in the University Villages. Welcome home.
- We offer 21 dining venues across campus and two unique student meal plans to satisfy even the most selective palates. And, we not only serve great food, we grow it at our on-campus gardens, too. Eat up.

Campus Orientation
The University of Montana's transition programs provide all the information new incoming students need to successfully begin their journey on campus. The orientation and transition experience extends beyond course registration; we deliver relevant and informative programming to prepare students for success, and design a variety of opportunities for students to connect with their new peers, current UM students, and broader campus and Missoula community.
New Student Orientation and the Big Sky Experience are programs for students who have already applied, been admitted and intend to enroll at either UM's Mountain Campus or Missoula College. All incoming students are expected to complete our online New Student Orientation program. New traditional-aged students are also expected to attend the in-person Big Sky Experience program. https://www.umt.edu/orientation/
Highlights
- A place to honor and protect. The University of Montana lies within the aboriginal territories of the Salish and Kalispel people. Today, we honor the path they have always shown us in caring for this place for the generations to come.
- A place where your light shines bright. Helping students like you craft their future ethically and courageously is what we do here. It’s the grizzly way of life in Montana, and also our Latin motto: “Lux et Veritas,” meaning “Light and Truth.”
- Our mission is simple: Our mission is Montana. Founded in 1893, the University of Montana continues to innovate through the courageous creativity of those who call it home. Today, Montana is proud to have over 10,000 Grizzlies across a variety of fields, all of whom contribute their passion and practicality toward stewardship and sustainability for the world around us.
- What's made in Montana is remaking the world. It’s simple: a top-ranked education you can afford. In one of the most gorgeous locations on Earth. With endless student experiences. And a close-knit community that’s dedicated to helping you find success, whatever your success looks like. That’s Montana. And we’re remaking the world, one Grizzly at a time.
