Montana Youth Challenge Academy is a preventative program that offers youth who have dropped out of high school or who are not progressing satisfactorily a proven opportunity to turn their lives around. Participants succeed outside of a traditional school setting by learning self discipline, leadership, and responsibility while working to obtain their high school diploma or equivalency. Courses are rigorous, yet meet each student at his or her academic level. The whole-person approach is enriched through experiential learning opportunities that focus on the Academy's 8 Core Components. Established by the Montana National Guard, MYCA is funded on a federal and state level. Tuition is free. Families are only responsible for personal items and hygiene supplies. The Academy is uniquely situated on the campus of The University of Montana-Western (UMW). Partnership with UMW allows students (who are eligible) the opportunity to earn between 6 and 15 college credits.
