Mining Engineering
The new energy economy needs more mining engineers to design, construct, and manage surface and underground mines around the world. Studying mining engineering at Montana Tech offers coursework on geological materials, blasting, materials handling, mine valuation, ventilation, and designing/operating of surface and underground mines. Students learn in state-of-the-art field and laboratory facilities including the Underground Mine Education Center, the only on-campus underground mine in the nation and have hands-on experiences through coursework, student clubs, and research projects.
Electrical Engineering
The Electrical Engineering program at Montana Tech offers coursework in power grid stability, grid modeling, power protection, and instrumentation and controls that prepares students for in-demand careers in renewable energy, semiconductors, microprocessors, controls, consulting and more. Students learn in state-of-the-art labs dedicated to protection, energy conversion, power plant systems, and training, and benefit from small classes taught by industry-experienced—and connected—faculty who offer mentorship from class to career.
Occupational Safety and Health
Students in the Occupational Safety and Health program at Montana Tech apply science, engineering, and technology to anticipate, evaluate, and control safety and health hazards in the workplace. Students have hands-on experiences in our state-of-the-art safety lab where they participate in real-world safety simulations. Additionally, students learn from experienced faculty and have access to scholarship and professional networking opportunities through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Nursing
Montana Tech’s Sherry Lesar School of Nursing is ranked the #1 Nursing Program in Montana (RegisteredNursing.org, 2024). Students learn in the Lesar Family Nursing Simulation Center that includes four simulation suites, a nurse's station, medication room, and high-tech mannequins for simulated learning experiences. Students complete close to 1,000 clinical hours through skills and simulation labs and clinical experiences at area hospitals and clinics. The Nursing Scholars Edge Direct Entry Program (mtech.edu/nursing/scholars-edge) provides 25 Montana high school seniors the opportunity to receive direct admission to the clinical portion of the Sherry Lesar School of Nursing. Applications are due by January 15, 2025.
